Portrait of the Artist’s Mother is a moving image work documenting a drawing exercise and conversation between the artist and his mother. The work begins with both participants attempting to draw their own faces by touch alone, before moving into a second phase in which they draw their own faces onto a mask worn by the other. The exercise leads to a conversation that considers the shifting dynamics between mother and son, the fluidity of creative exchange, and the ways in which identity is both inherited and redefined.
